Closing the Gap

This 42-year-old man hated going to the dentist. Chris had not been to a dentist for about nine years. He dreaded gong to the dentist. Chris came to our office because he was a good friend of our dental assistant, Debbie, who has been here for 16 years. He worked with the public as a home lender and expressed dissatisfaction with the ‘gaps’ between his front teeth and the color of his teeth. He wanted a nice smile so he could smile more often instead of not showing his teeth and hiding them when he talked. Another important reason he came to our office was the fear factor and the previous bad experiences with other dentists. Debbie promised him that he would not feel any pain or discomfort while he was receiving treatment.

We created a complete smile makeover using all porcelain crowns. Chris was asleep for all his dental treatment. On the first visit, we prepared the teeth for porcelain crowns. We had laboratory-fabricated temporaries made for the four upper anterior teeth to make sure that he was going to like his new smile. Chris also had a lot of gum showing or what we call a “gummy smile”. Gingival re-contouring or sculpting was done on his gum tissue. This simple procedure takes just minutes. There is no bleeding, no stitches and minimal discomfort. When he looked at his new smile the next day he just loved it.

At the final appointment, we cemented the porcelain crowns on and his new smile was complete.
